Expertise: Digital Marketing

Jill Sung is a seasoned community banking executive and CEO of Abacus Federal Savings Bank, a family-owned institution based in New York City’s Chinatown, founded by her father, Thomas Sung, in 1984.

Sung has been deeply involved in the community banking sector for over two decades. She is known for her advocacy work and leadership within the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA), where she serves as an At-Large Director and is a member of the Minority Bank Advisory Council. She also contributes to ICBA’s Policy Development Committee and Housing Finance Subcommittee.

Her leadership at Abacus Federal Savings Bank gained national attention through the Oscar-nominated documentary Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, which chronicled the bank’s legal battle following the 2008 financial crisis. The film highlighted the Sung family’s fight to defend their institution and reputation, making Jill a prominent voice in discussions about justice and equity in the financial industry.

Sung holds a law degree and has used her legal and financial expertise to guide Abacus through complex regulatory environments while maintaining its mission to serve immigrant and underserved communities.

Jill is a longtime community bank executive and advocate, having served on various ICBA committees dating back more than a decade.
